SUMMER school director Torquil Johnson-Ferguson, 65, who ran the Rua Fiola centre on the island of Lunga, off the west coast of Scotland, has resigned.

The manager of an adventure centre for children on a private island has been charged with sex offences.

Torquil Johnson-Ferguson, 65, has quit as director of the Rua Fiola centre on the tiny island of Lunga, off the west coast of Scotland.

Police Scotland confirmed that a 65-year-old man had appeared at Oban Sheriff Court in December charged with indecency.

No further details are available on the case, which was heard in private.

Johnson-Ferguson and his wife Margaret have a home in Canonbie, Dumfriesshire.

Records from Companies House show that, just days before his court appearance, Johnson-Ferguson resigned as a director of Wild Island Exploration, who run the outdoors centre.

The Crown Office said: “We can confirm a 65-year-old man appeared at Oban Sheriff Court on December 11, 2013, charged with lewd, indecent and libidinous practices and behaviour."

“He was bailed and the case continued for further examination."

“At this stage of proceedings, we do not have, or are at liberty to give, any details of the alleged offences but they will be available from the court as and when the case progresses."

Youngsters from the age of nine attend residential courses on the island, with parents paying up to £830 to send them.

The company website shows that trips are booked up for the next three weeks.
