SURVIVOR SUPPORT ORGANISATIONS

Future Pathways - Set up to allow survivors of in-care abuse in Scotland to access services that they need. Each individual survivor can access the services most appropriate to them. This could include counselling and psychological support, access to records, and services to support work, training and educational needs. It is funded by the Scottish Government and run by a group of organisations, including the Mental Health Foundation, Health in Mind, Penumbra and Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership. www.future-pathways.co.uk

The National Association for People Abused in Childhood (NAPAC) - An organisation which can provide advice to an adult who has been abused in childhood. It can refer a survivor to local counselling, support and help groups, and also has its own support line. napac.org.uk

Children 1st - Offers a range of services for children, young people and their families who have been affected by physical, sexual or emotional abuse. There is a network of local support groups across the country. www.children1st.org.uk

In Care Survivors Alliance (INCAS) - The In Care Survivors Alliance is fully funded by Scottish Government. It is part of a wider strategy developed by Scottish Government to address the legacy of abuse in Scotland. INCAS is made up of four partner organisations, with staff from each of these organisations in the INCAS Leadership Team. incarealliance.scot

  1. Glasgow Psychological Trauma Service (also known as The Anchor) is a mental health team. It is part of NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde and Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP).  www.nhsggc.net  
  2. Health in Mind - One of Scotland’s best-known and trusted mental health charities. Founded in 1982, the charity promotes positive mental health and wellbeing in local communities across Scotland. www.health-in-mind.org.uk
  3. Penumbra Mental Health - A pioneering charity providing dedicated services for people with mild to serious and enduring mental ill health. Staff support people on their journey to better mental health, by working with each person to find their own way forward. www.penumbra.org.uk  
  4. Scottish Government - In January 2022, the In Care Survivors Alliance accepted oversight of the Redress Support Service. This service was set up to support people applying to Scotland’s Redress Scheme, set up by the Scottish Government to recognise and acknowledge the harm caused to people who have experienced in care abuse and neglect. Note that the Redress Scheme excludes boarding school survivors. www.gov.scot

Wellbeing Scotland - A voluntary organisation with services across Scotland, providing a range of holistic services for individuals (both children and adults) and families whose life experiences have impacted negatively on their wellbeing. These include therapeutic services specialising in abuse and trauma work. www.wellbeingscotland.org

SurvivorsUK - Provides information, support and counselling for male victims/survivors of rape and sexual abuse in all parts of the UK, as well as their family and friends. www.survivorsuk.org
