SCOTTISH CHILD ABUSE INQUIRY NEWS

The Scottish Child Abuse Inquiry (SCAI) was established on 1 October 2015 under the Inquiries Act 2005 to investigate the nature and extent of historical abuse of children in care in Scotland, including institutional failures to protect them and the continuing impact on survivors.

Its remit expressly includes state and private institutions, including independent boarding schools, and it has therefore conducted a dedicated boarding-schools investigation, that included Merchiston Castle School. The SCAI is chaired by Lady Anne Smith.
