According to his witness statement to the Scottish Child Abuse Inquiry, “James (CDR)” attended Merchiston as a pupil from 1954-1959 and returned as a member of staff from 1966-1979. In the published book—the Merchiston Castle School Register, 1974-1993—it is clear that only one person matches both spans, and his stated education qualifications in both the witness statement and in the Register also match.
